Safety Critical Positions 

When an employee who occupies a Safety Critical Position is absent due to illness or injury, the Responsible Manager must provide the following:

Step 1 - Complete & print RTW package

The Manager should complete Part 2 of the Functional Abilities Forms (FAF) before providing to the employee.   The employee must be advised to return the completed FAF to Occupational Health Services, as directed on the form, within 72 hours.

Step 2 - Select and print JDA

The employee should also be provided with a Job Demands Analysis for their position.  The employee should also provide this to his doctor to assist in the completion of the FAF.  Choose one of the following:

Locomotive Engineer (PDF, 81kb)

Conductor/Trainman – Road (PDF, 81kb)

Yard Foreman/Yardman (PDF, 81kb)

Rail Traffic Controller (PDF, 81kb)

Step 3 (optional) - WIB or STD cases

If the illness or injury is NOT work related, the employee should also be provided with a Disability Benefit form.

Step 4 (optional) - Additional FAFs for long-term cases

Should additional FAFs be required for more long term absences or accommodations, the manager can print them from here.
