White River holiday
We always travel to see the CP Holiday Train as it does not come to our town. We've travelled to Plattsburg, New York and in Ontario, our regular viewing is at Ayr, but we've also travelled to Mississauga, Almonte and Cambridge. Our favourite though is White River!!
We travelled to Sudbury and took the RDC train from Sudbury to White River. My brother, John, drove from Thunder Bay to White River to see the train with us. We checked into a local motel and after dinner made our way down to the train station to wait for the arrival of the CP Holiday Train. This was my brother's first experience with the CP Holiday Train.
It was a gorgeous winter's night, with a clear starlit sky, about 2 feet of white crisp snow and a light snowfall coming down. The train comes into White River around a curve. We saw it approach and John's eyes just lit up!
It appeared that we were on the "wrong" side of the tracks as the train came around the curve, we, of course, saw the left side of the train. John yelled out, OH MY GOSH, we are on the wrong side and wont see the lights!!! To which I replied, "It's okay, John, the train is decorated on both sides!!"
You would think he was 5 years old, not late 50's, he was so excited. We are in our 60's. It always makes my wife tear up, she just loves it! No matter your age, the CP Holiday Train brings the child out in all of us! We still talk about trip!
