Bear Conservation Initiative

In October 2010, CP and Parks Canada announced a joint Action Plan which included establishment of a $1 million research fund to be administered cooperatively with Parks Canada.

Strategic investments will be made to fund research on the root causes of bear-train collisions and the relative importance of the various factors.  The fund will also be used to develop and test new approaches aimed at reducing grizzly bear mortality on the rail line through Banff and Yoho National Parks.

The research will be supported by operational investments by both CP and Parks Canada and supplemented, to the greatest extent possible, by the resources of third parties who wish to collaborate on this important initiative.
