Wind energy components

We have the experience and expertise to make moving your wind power components a breeze.

Fully assembled, some wind turbines stretch nearly as high as the Calgary tower. That's a lot of environmentally-friendly energy power, but how does it get where it needs to go? With CP, your wind power equipment travels quickly, safely, and conveniently.

We've supported wind energy since 2005 and have shipped more than 3,500 carloads of wind power equipment including hubs, nacelles, tower sections and blades. From our extensive rail network to our dedicated transload facilities, not to mention our experienced logistics team, moving your wind power components is a breeze.

We know how to pack

  • We "nest" towers for fewer loads, which saves you money.
  • Your components can be moved on both unit train and single car shipments.
  • Our dedicated fleet of 70-tonne, 89-foot flat cars can be modified for all wind components, and our 15-foot clearances across the majority of our network prevent logistical headaches.

We've got connections

  • With CP, gain access to key North American break bulk ports, including Duluth, Thunder Bay, Montreal and Vancouver.
  • Access wind-friendly ports such as Thunder Bay, Duluth, Fraser Surrey Docks, Milwaukee, and Montreal.
  • We offer direct access to wind developments in the US Midwest and four wind tower manufacturers in Canada (DMI, Marmen, Hitachi and CS Wind).
  • We have interchanges with other Class 1 railways, including BNSF, UP, NS, CSXT and CN.

Our transload facilities are second-to-none

  • Our crane equipment will safely load or unload your components.
  • Our transload locations are centrally-located between many wind farms, allowing you to stage inventory, which could reduce your lead time for future sales.
