"Find what defines you other than a uniform. Stay fit. Get any support you need. Don't underestimate your own value."
After completing his BA in Political Science at McGill University, Spencer had the ambition to explore the world and serve his country. He spent a total of six years in the British Army as a light infantry officer where he commanded a rifle platoon in Afghanistan and lead various small unit training teams in Iraq and Somalia. Training to safely serve in these intense missions built strong leadership qualities where he could dynamically manage multiple challenges at the same time.
Seeking a new challenge and wanting to return home to Canada, he completed his MBA at the Haskayne School of Business in Calgary.
When he was ready to look for a civilian career, CP's Veteran Recruitment Program connected him with several veterans at CP who taught him how his military skills could set him up for a rewarding lifetime career with many opportunities. Spencer trained to become an Assistant Trainmaster through the
Veteran Management Trainee Program, where he enjoyed the fast pace of learning and the constant challenge to improve personal and operational performance.
Spencer now works as a Specialist, Service Design. In his role, he solves complex business problems with data-driven decisions that deliver on CP's foundations of providing service, optimizing assets and controlling costs.
