CP's acquisition of the Central Maine & Quebec Railroad (CMQ) gives us access to key Atlantic ports. Our network gained 481 miles of additional track in Canada and the U.S., with five short line connections. This creates optionality for our customers and positions CP as a full coast-to-coast supply chain provider.

Offering multi-purpose cargo management solutions, Port Saint John provides the ideal North Atlantic gateway to Central and Atlantic Canada, North East and Midwest U.S. 

It is the closest coastal port to Central Canada served by intermodal rail connections and direct highway access, offering year-round, ice-free access, with deep draft and no air draft restrictions.

Port Saint John has embarked on an aggressive modernization program that will increase container capacity to 300,000 TEUs, deepen quayside draft and provide additional on-dock rail capacity by 2021.

  • Domestic Repositioning Program
    CP can market your intermodal containers, which would otherwise move empty, and use them in the North American market to provide low-cost repositioning to the Maritimes.
 
  • Expedited customs procedures
    As a low-risk transportation carrier for U.S. imports, CP can arrange expedited customs procedures between Canada and the U.S.​​
  • Extensive network of transload facilities
    Allows more goods to be containerized and shipped domestically or overseas.

​Temperature Controlled Fleet

CP’s fleet of temperature-controlled containers includes 900 refrigerated containers and over 1,200 heated containers which are GPS-tracked and equipped with the latest telematics technology available for use across our network.

CP’s dedicated TempPro team closely monitors container conditions while the shipment is enroute and can address any issues in near real-time, ensuring your goods are delivered securely and safely.

  • Flexibility with design and spacing for automotive, with the ability to configure the terminal to suit the needs of customers including creating a Vehicle Process Centre (VPC).
  • Capable of handling roll-on/roll-off vessels, with the ability to load rail on-dock and convert existing general cargo space for automotive fleets.
