Pitt Meadows Road and Rail Improvements Project

Rail component spring 2023 update

CP is moving forward with proposed rail upgrades to enhance mainline track capacity and throughput in Pitt Meadows, B.C. including:
  • A siding track on the north side of the two mainline tracks between Harris Road and Kennedy Road.
  • An extension of the existing lead track accessing the Vancouver Intermodal Facility east across Harris Road.
The infrastructure is designed to shift certain operations off the north main track onto the siding or lead extension, and is not connected to the proposed CP Logistics Park: Vancouver.

Project Map

Public Engagement

CP presented the update to an open Pitt Meadows Council meeting on March 28, 2023. CP is also proactively mailing a project update postcard to all Pitt Meadows residents.

Property owners that share a property line with the work will also receive a Notice of Railway Works. The Notice of Railway Works is a federal regulatory process that CP (and all Canadian railways) is required to submit when undertaking certain works as part of the Railway Safety Act.

The Notice of Railway Works materials will not show a grade separation. If an agreement for a grade separation at Harris Road is reached, CP will update our application to reflect any changes and notify adjacent residents.

Rail Project Components

CP is leading the following rail components:

  • A siding track on the north side of the two mainline tracks between Harris Road and Kennedy Road
- A 10,000-foot (3,048-meter) siding on the north side of the two mainline tracks east of Kennedy Road and west of Harris Road.

- A bridge over Katzie Slough with abutments outside of the high-water mark, similar to the existing mainline bridge over Katzie Slough.

  •  An extension of the existing lead track accessing the Vancouver Intermodal Facility east across Harris Road

- Extend the existing lead track accessing the Vancouver Intermodal Facility by 6,000 feet (1,829 meters) east across Harris Road on the north side of the two mainline tracks.

- Connect the lead to the north main track, west of Maple Meadows Way.

- Construct a protection wall for the existing overhead pedestrian bridge near Bonson Road.

These improvements will increase capacity by shifting certain operational processes off the north main track onto the siding or lead extension.
